This ancient black and white film comes during the period when two men couldn’t be seen making contact with each other in a passionate way while naked. To get around that, producers usually had them wrestle because violence, of course, is perfectly acceptable.

So as an alternative to wrestling in this movie, they used calisthenics in order to show some movement and activity.
