Legendary performer Jon King was born John Nelson Gaines on January 12, 1963, in Jacksonville Florida. One of the biggest names in 80’s porn Jon began his career after a Catalina rep, at a car wash in LA, discovered him. Excited to make his dreams of porn stardom a reality he jumped at the chance to perform on screen and soon began shooting for some of the industries biggest studios. In 1982 as his career was on the fast track Jon stole a Corvette while on a test drive, robbed a Burger King in Gainesville FL then wrecked the car, and for this spent eleven months in prison. Upon his release the popular bottom made a comeback in 1983, making several films throughout much of the eighties. In 1989 Jon retired from porn and moved to Atlanta where he pursued a culinary degree. After failing to become a successful chef Jon returned to porn in the early 90’s. His last video, Pumping Iron, was released in 1995. Shortly after the release of his last film Jon, who had been HIV positive for several years, became really sick. He moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to live with a friend who looked after his needs. It was there that Jon died from AIDS complications on March 8,1995. He was cremated and his ashes mixed and scattered with those of his beloved dog, who had died some years earlier.

I was thrilled to find this movie featuring J.W. King fucking Chris Burns. At last, a scene with two models I actually recognized! J.W. King (not to be confused with younger Jon King) was a big star of the era on the same level as Al Parker.  Also known as Jim King, JW King was born in 1955 in Texas and was a big star in the 1980s for studios like Colt Studios. 

According to In Touch Magazine #125 [April 1987, pp. 97-98], “J. W. King, one of the most popular and best-liked stars of gay male films, died of AIDS complications in Hollywood on December 5, 1986.” J.W., whose real name was James Waldrop, was born in Texas and moved to Los Angeles in 1979. He also appeared in films as Jim King and was the “Man of the Month” Playgirl magazine’s January 1981 issue under his real name, Jim Waldrop.

His obituary in Update magazine noted that “He retired from the screen over a year ago and, with his lover (John Murphy, who also died of AIDS in November, 1986), lived in the Hollywood Hills. He had been employed as a waiter at the Sheraton-Premiere Hotel in Universal City for the last 30 months.“

R.J. Reynolds, a bisexual pornographic film actor who appeared primarily in straight features, was J. W. King’s real life lover at the time of his film appearances with King.

J. W. King is memorialized with an AIDS quilt under the name of Jim Waldrop.
