penetration shots

penetration shots

Maybe I’m the only one who notices these things (or cares) but part of the fun of collecting vintage gay porn is spotting things in the background. No Holes Barred is a magazine with a photo set that looks very familiar. I’ve seen that same plaid couch a couple times, and maybe even recognize one of the models, but there is no indication anywhere who shot it or where the location was.

I picked these two examples of things in the background most people would miss. First is the poster on the wall of Senator George McGovern. He was a Democratic presidential candidate in 1972 (lost to Richard Nixon) and somewhat of a liberal because he was against the Vietnam War. The youth backed him because they didn’t want to get drafted, so that’s why it was common to have his poster on the wall.

The other interesting thing you might miss in the second photo was the shoes. I had a pair of shoes exactly like those in 11th grade, and it wasn’t till I went on the Senior Class Trip to New York that I was able to find platform shoes with higher heels. Around the time these photos were taken, the really tall platform shoes for men were only worn by rock stars because they had to get them custom made.  I was so proud to have the highest pair of platforms in my school that fall!

So what about the sex in this magazine? As the title suggests, it’s “No Holes Barred”! If you like penetration shots, this magazine has a lot of them. Join the VIP Room to see the set.

Vintage Gay Fashion and Glamor

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 by admin

Town Squire 1318 Polk Street

Town Squire 1318 Polk Street

“In fashion, one day you’re in, the next day you’re out.”

Part Two of my analysis of a new magazine I added to the VIP Room, “Muscleboy” from 1965 deals with the sociological aspects of some of the first emergence of gay identified fashion in magazines. Though this magazine was clearly geared to be the porn of it’s day (and really tame by today’s standards) it was a breakthrough to do a fashion spread (or editorial) with photos of obviously gay models wearing clothing that could purchased from an actual brick and mortar store. Again, this is from 1965, the era portrayed in Mad Men, when men’s fashion was very strict. To us, the clothes look goofy, but back then they must have thought they were from Mars!

The store was called “Town Squire” at 1318 Polk Street in San Francisco, the center of what was the gay neighborhood at that time. Just the fact that a store existed that openly catered to gay men is astounding. Innocent as it sounds, it was actually daring to put an address for such a business in print in a magazine like this during a period when employers and the government actually conducted witch hunts to find suspected homosexuals. And here’s an address where you could find them shopping!

And on a slightly related note, the blond guy in the fashion spreads also did some shots without wearing any fashionable clothes – or anything at all, as you can see below. Those eyes are some of the most seductive I’ve ever seen. Other than being adorable, I added this last photo as an example of what might have been defined as “glamor” to a young homosexual during the mid-60’s. Can you now see where Liberace got his taste?

More Mr. Sun

black socks in porn

black socks in porn

Besides the Nude Male Olympics that I wrote about the other day from the magazine “Mr. Sun“, there are three other photo series in that issue. One is a character study of a studly black guy with a mustache, another is a little romantic romp with two twinks taken from a softcore 8mm “nudie film”, but I found some decidedly anti-aesthetic quality to a photo series in the same magazine titled “The Wrestlers”.

Neither of them look like wrestlers, nor to they make any moves that remotely look like wrestling moves. In fact, the “wrestling match” takes place at a non-AAU sanctioned location – a vinyl couch. As always, it’s the subtle things in the shot that intrigue me the most. In this case, the photo of a chubby pinup girl on the floor, the one shoe that looks exactly like a pair I wore at the time, and the rug with the frayed edges. But, best of all, lets talk about the guy wearing black calf-length socks.

As soon as the porn business came of age, one of the first things that is universally acknowledged as “not sexy” is men wearing black socks during sex. That alone often indelibly marks a porn movie as poorly made or cheap, but in this case, I think the black socks are what give it it’s charm. What we have here is two average looking guys trying to have sex on camera without really doing anything that actually looks like sex (it’s tougher than you think…). They fumble around in several awkward positions throughout the photo session, including the other decidedly un-sexy pose – resting his balls on the head of someone sleeping. Wow, hard-on city!

Okay, maybe I’m being too critical, but I get such a kick out of digging into elements about porn that nobody else notices or appreciates for it’s humor, irony and fabulousness. If you think the same way, please join the VIP Room to see more – you’re in for some laughs!

Vintage Gay Porn Fashion Statement

Monday, June 28th, 2010 by admin

JavaScript is disabled!
To display this content, you need a JavaScript capable browser.

This movie could easily have been forgotten if it wasn’t for one single element that makes it unique – one character wears a pair of jeans covered in giant peace symbols. Clothing like that was a bold fashion statement at a time when the world was only accustomed to standard shapes, muted colors, and patterns limited to subtle checks, plaids and pinstripes. Clothing with outrageous graphics, colors and extreme shapes (bell bottom pants, wide lapel shirts, mini shirts, etc.) arrived in the late 60’s, but many of us couldn’t get ahold of those styles until well into the 70’s.

This movie was probably from the early 1970’s and appears to be from Europe. The movie opens with a brief clip of a bleached blond boy walking down a very European style street and meets a cute brunette who is wearing the peace sign jeans with a wide belt cinched tight to accent his tiny waist. And yes, he does fill out those jeans very nicely.

The blond takes his time seducing unzipping the peace sign jeans and pulling out a nice sized uncut cock. At this point, if you look closely, the blond has long, painted fingernails, also a rarity at the time. He gives a slow, seductive, lip smacking blowjob. He finally gets his own pants off to reveal a cute little pure white butt. He gets bent over the wooden arm of a Danish Modern chair (that would fetch a hefty price from collectors today) to get plowed by the uncut brunette.

The brunette fucks the blond silly and cums on his back. We then see something unusual. Generally at this point there’s a fade-out to the epilogue, and the scene ends. Instead we watch as the blond wipes his back with a cum towel and the top gets dressed again in his peace sign jeans. The brunette smiles and chuckles, then exits shirtless. The blond sits down on the Burnt Orange Danish Modern chair and smacks his lips and rubbing his own uncut cock thinking about the hot fuck he just had. As he stands up to exit and the camera zooms in on the lone cum rag sitting on the chair. Movies don’t often end with a cum rag, even today. Just another oddity that I love about vintage gay porn!

The entire 12 minute scene “Peace Sign Jeans” is available right now in the Vintage Bareback VIP Room.

More Jack Wrangler Making It Big In San Francisco

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 by admin

Jack Wrangler is Making It Big - In His Pants!

Earlier this week I debuted another vintage gay porn magazine in the VIP Room entitled “Making It Big In San Francisco” starring Jack Wrangler. In my first blog post, I was spotlighting the local angle, now let’s talk about the sex, shall we.

This magazine was made in the vague period between softcore and hardcore. There was hardcore magazines printed at the time, and there was probably plenty of hardcore shots taken during this photo session, but this is another examples of “teasers”. They didn’t show any penetration. They could show a naked dick and a mouth or ass dangerously close to that dick, but they wouldn’t show any penetration.

On the positive side, this magazine is almost all color and as you can see, there is some excellent photography. Sign up for the VIP Room and see the rest.

Country Roads Take Me Home

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 by admin

John Denver in gay porn

Country roads, take me home
To the place, I be-long
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
All my memories, gather ’round her
Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.

That John Denver poster on the wall is somehow out of place with these young twinks having three way sex.

Accu-Jacking in the 1970’s

Friday, February 12th, 2010 by admin

vintage sex toy

When I saw the cover of the magazine “Accu-Jacking” I knew I HAD to have it! First of all, the velvet bell-bottom pants, polyester shirts and bizarre wallpaper are worthy of both of my upcoming features of “Interior Desecration” and “Crimes of Fashion”.

But the real appeal of this photo set from “Accu-Jacking” is the primitive Fred Flinstone sex toy itself, the “Accu-Jack” appliance. I call it an appliance because something that big and bulky, nearly the size of a wood grained console stereo, would probably have been found in the Major Appliance Department of Sears, right next to the refrigerators.

I remember seeing ads for this device when it came out, but I never saw one in person, and I’d never even seen one demonstrated in such detail before. This magazine obviously was a product demonstration to show it in use.

Through a series of vacuum pumps, plastic tubing, fabric belts with buckles and snaps, two guys can enjoy the machine together as they would on a spaceship! It also had separate attachments for sucking AND fucking – almost like a fully accessorized Kirby vacuum cleaner!

I scanned the entire magazine and cropped each of the 97 individual photos so you get the full demonstration of this modern marvel of a sex toy. In comparison, the Accu-Jack from the 1970’s is so much more space age high tech than the current favorite sex toy, the Fleshjack. The Fleshjack is almost TOO simple in comparison. But here’s a challenge for you – take your Fleshjack, join the VintageBareback.com VIP Room and watch the slideshow from Accu-Jack, and I’ll guarantee you an awesome orgasm!

69 Sunset Strip

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 by admin

vintage gay porn

I just scanned a magazine from the 1960’s called “69 Sunset Strip“, which was probably an homage to the popular TV series “77 Sunset Strip” which ran on ABC from 1958-1964. The introduction to the magazine says,

“The 1920’s Gingerbread style apartment house at 69 Sunset Strip has to be the swingingest, gayest 10 stories in West Hollywood, or anywhere. It counts among its tenants artists and actors (the retired superstar dating from the silents), insurance executives who spend their evenings in Western or leather togs (one has redecorated his bedroom dungeon style), a model agency, three transvestites, and two cock photographers. The parade of handsome males past the rococo lobby’s potted palms equals the crowd at West Hollywood’s popular gay bars, just over on Santa Monica Blvd.”

77 Sunset Strip

Why did they choose to parody “77 Sunset Strip”, the prototype for private detective shows in the late 50’s and early 60’s starring Efram Zimbalist, Jr.? My guess is the blond guy (see top photo) resembles Edd “Kookie” Byrnes, who was a major male sex symbol at the time. Next door to the fictional detective agency at 77 Sunset Strip was a restaurant called Dino’s, and IMDB says,

“Seen often was Dino’s parking lot attendant, a gangling, jive-talking youth named Kookie (Edd Byrnes), who longed to be a private detective himself and who often helped Stu and Jeff on their cases. Kookie provided comic relief for the series, and his “Kookie-isms” became a trademark… But it was Edd Byrnes’ character of Kookie who caught the public’s fancy and propelled the show into the top ten. In the first telecast of the 1959-1960 season he helped Stu Bailey catch a jewel thief by staging a revue, in which he sang a novelty song called,”Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb”. The song was released on record as a duet between Byrnes and Connie Stevens(who also starred on another Warner Bros. detective series,”Hawaiian Eye”,which was on the same network), became a smash hit making Byrnes’ character of Kookie, the “Fonzie” of his day, making him a very popular celebrity.”

Edd Kookie BrynesEdd Kookie Brynes

“Edd found escape from family problems at the movies and at the gym, where he developed an athletic body. At age 17 he was approached by a man who offered to take free “physique” photos of him. According to Edd’s 1996 autobiography, “Kookie No More”, this led to a few years of “hustling” older, well-to-do men, despite the fact that Edd was heterosexual. One of these men acted as Edd’s mentor, introducing him to fashion and culture and encouraging his hopes for an acting career.”

“Viewers quoted his dialog, (“Baby, you’re the ginchiest!”), and young males imitated the way he wielded his ever-present comb. His fan mail soon reached an astonishing 15,000 letters a week and his single with Connie Stevens, “Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb”, became a top-5 hit. The hip-talking, hair-combing image clung to him, however, and Edd felt he lost the lead in PT 109 (1963) because President John F. Kennedy didn’t want to be played by “Kookie.” A few more movies and TV appearances followed, but his career had passed its peak before he turned 30.”

“In 1975, Merv Griffin hired Edd to host a new game-show called “Wheel of Fortune” (1975/I). Two half-hour pilots were filmed. NBC bought the show but didn’t want Byrnes as host. Griffin replaced him with Chuck Woolery (who was later replaced with Pat Sajak).”

I was old enough to remember the song, and even old enough to think he was kinda hot, but all that. I remember the mannerisms of him combing that hair caught on, and pocket combs became a necessary accessory to carry at all times.

“69 Sunset Strip” (the magazine) has three pairs of hot young guys that supposedly represent the swinging residents of the gay old building. The photos and action are so hot, I actually had to look at it again before I noticed that there is no penetration! It’s that hot! There are 75 very sharp, clear images (sorry, just shy of 77…) mostly in black and white, available to VIP Members.
