The name of the magazine these photos came from is called “Sodom and Gomorrah” but the only text inside of it is a very long, long story about cop tricking with guys on Lovers Lane. I have no idea how a horny cop is connected to Biblical cities of sin, but I guess they couldn’t get any good graphics about Sodom and Gomorrah without looking too “christiany”.
Notice how the cop car looks sideways on the page? That’s because the way the magazine was laid out, the picture of the cute boys was actually sideways and I turned it around for use on the website.
I estimate this magazine was done in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. Back then, because of obscenity laws, it was really hard to find a photo lab to print XXX rated photos, and it’s pretty obvious that the film was processed and printed at home. In an earlier blog post I explained the difficult task it was to make these pictures presentable, but I actually really enjoyed the process of cleaning them up.

Any mention of the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah instantly suggest “sin”, and more specifically, the worst sin of all, homosexuality. In reality, they were probably resort towns, the Las Vegas of their day, or maybe they were not even that overtly sinful, but just bad PR.
I just scanned and added this magazine in it’s entirety to the VIP Room. Thankfully, it has nothing to do with Judea-Christian values (damn) but it does have it’s charms. What I enjoy most about this vintage gay porn magazine Sodom and Gomorrah, is how amateur and home-made the production is. The fact that is was lovingly put together by hand gives it it’s charm.
How do I know it was home made? Though it was printed on glossy paper, it was the cheapest grade paper at the time. (I remember pricing printing stock back then myself.) It’s all in black and white except for the cover and inside center fold had a blue tint as it’s only extravagance.
I had to do a lot of touch ups and correction to the brightness and contrast of these pictures. I probably spent more time on this magazine than any other I’ve done so far for Vintage Bareback. In doing so, it was easy to tell the film was processed at home and printed with a home enlarger. You could see lots of dust spots and little pieces of fuzz that occur from dirty negatives and dirty lenses in the enlarger. It was also obvious the pictures were poorly lit to begin with because there wasn’t much contrast. I corrected them as best I could, but again, that’s part of the charm.
Another interesting fact about the printing of “Sodom and Gomorrah” is the number of pictures that were printed sideways and upside down. It got confusing because the horizontal images were printed sideways at full size rather than shrunk to 8 1/2″ wide and pasted up vertical. As a consumer, it’s nice to see a full page picture, but if you flip through the magazine, you have to keep turning the book, and some pages weren’t pasted up consistently. Fun.

Though this picture is vintage gay porn from the 1960’s, the model certainly fits the type that would be posing in Calvin Klein underwear today. Or better yet, I could see Calvin Klein sticking his face into this guy’s underwear, he’s certainly Calvin’s type. I am in love with this picture, and there is so much to love! Leopard skin bedspread, the Pompadour hairdo piled high on his head, the hairy legs, and most of all, the focus of this picture is the amazing set of abs. I don’t know about you, but my eyes go right to that six pack.

The set of weights on the floor were the exact same Ted Williams set I got from Sears in the 1960’s (I still have the dumbbells.) I still don’t know who Ted Williams was, though.
The green variegated sheet of Plexiglas in the background was very stylish for DIY home renovation at the time, so I’m sure it looked very hip to the photographer.
The plastic 50’s style orange table lamp is dreamy, sitting on top of a mahogany console stereo shows someone had money.

I recently purchased this issue of Demigods Magazine from January 1962. I got it at a really low price because it had a bit of “damage”. It seems a former owner had the delusion that if he carefully cut around the edges of the bathing suits on the models, he’d be able to lift it up and see some dick underneath! Someone seems to have lost touch with reality.

These pages came from a gay magazine called Tiger in 1966 in an attempt to mimic mainstream lifestyle magazines. The jokes are so corny they’re camp and quaint, but if you think about it, these humorous “lists” make up a lot of the crap put out on Facebook! Tiger Magazine, the brother publication to DSI’s Butch Magazine, is an important archeological find. Not only is it full of extremely hot guys from 1966, but it contains rare references to the early gay rights movement. Plus, it has some campy attempts at humor, in the tradition of mainstream lifestyle magazines.
On page 41 there is an Op Ed piece about the Dew vs. Halaby case concerning a gay air traffic controller who got fired in 1958 because he “smoked marijuana on five occasions and had engaged in for homosexual acts, some of them for money.” He fought and won back his job and back pay.”The Government is beginning, increasingly, to feel itself placed on the defensive in cases such as this.”
Fast forward 50 years and we’re still fighting against the Government firing military people who are found to be gay! “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” is 17 years old already, and we’re still begging Republicans to go along with a repeal. We need to put those bastards on the defense once and for all!
