This is a very rare film from the late 1950’s by Apollo Studios. In it, a popular physique model of the time, Steve Wengryn, is wandering the dusty mountain roads of Woodland Hills in the still very rustic San Fernando Valley. It’s so hot and sunny, that Steve decides to take off his shirt, and after a few minutes, removes his pants and shoes, too. So imagine a man walking around an LA suburb in just his jockey shorts. If you were sitting in the shade, drinking iced tea and reading a book and this nearly naked man came to your door, what would you do?

Well, if you’re this guy (who happens to be sitting in super tight cut-off jeans shredded all the way up to the waist) you naturally let him in. Not only that, you size him up and decide to take some “artistic” physique photos. In what must have been a shock beyond compare, the model actually strips down NAKED on camera! We only see his bare butt, but there is no mistaking he’s naked. That must have caused quite a stir at the time.

After few shots indoors, they move outside to shoot. After he’s gotten the shots he needs, the photographer develops the film in the dark room while the model waits under tree, sipping iced tea. When he emerges from the dark room with 8×10 prints, he shows them to the model for his approval. The End.

How about that for jack off material?! If you watch closely though, you’ll notice that neither of the models are ever seen in the same shot together! Not sure what that means, but it could be that the film maker was afraid the models wouldn’t cooperate in any “fag stuff”, or else their schedules just didn’t jive. Who knows. Enjoy the sample, but you can see lots more actual hardcore pre-condom movies with penetration inside the VIP Room. Get your membership now!

Leatherman: The Legend of Chuck Renslow

Friday, June 17th, 2011 by admin

Chuck Renslow

The author of this book review is an important and well-connected member of gay history. He was eye-witness to many of the events and knew many of the people involved in some of the stories told in this book about Chuck Renslow. Renslow, unlike most historical figures of modern gay life, IS still alive and is still working hard on projects like the Leather History Museum and his signature yearly event, International Mr. Leather.

The most important quote below: …Born a year before Harvey Milk and politically active 20 years before Milk hit Castro…

Book Review by Dr. Jack Fritscher

Published in Bay Area Reporter June 9, 2011.

Leatherman: The Legend of Chuck Renslow by Tracy Baim and Owen Keehnen; Prairie Avenue Productions, $24.99

In Casablanca, “sooner or later everybody comes to Rick’s.” In Chicago, the world comes to Chuck’s. Since 1950, Chuck Renslow, now 82 and one of the most famous gay men on the planet, has safely hosted thousands of GLBT visitors at his 30 venues, from his legendary Gold Coast bar (1960-88) to his International Mr. Leather Contest (1979) and his prestigious Leather Archives & Museum (1991). For 60 years, Renslow, a politically aggressive Democrat in the Chicago Machine, has been a person of interest to cops, politicians, fans, and frenemies. Read the rest of this entry »

Nude Ranch Wrestling

I think this weekend will be the first real taste of summer weather we’re going to have this year in balmy San Francisco. I visited my one friend in the suburbs with a pool last night and he still hasn’t removed the cover for the season yet. It’s been too cold.

I am sooo ready for real summer weather, I decided to add a little summertime treat to the VIP Room. “Nude Ranch Wrestling” comes from sometime in the late 1950’s, shot in black and white, with really poor camerawork and no preparation. But for it’s time, there wasn’t much else in the way of nude males to be found. There were laws preventing the filming of nude men touching – unless they were engaged in an act of pseudo-violence… like wrestling!

The movie starts with a sign hanging on a wall that serves as the title card for this silent (but deadly) smoker. It reads, “Rick’s Nude Ranch. Keep Out. Members Only. Wrestling Match.” So, the event for the day at this nude ranch is going to be a wrestling match? I am so there!

It’s a warm summer day with a blond twink playing a guitar in a swimming pool. Not a particularly glamorous pool, more like an elaborate horse trough, really. We keep referencing back to the twink with the guitar throughout this movie, as it’s obvious his segments were filmed at a different time and just used as transition material. The real action is between two muscular hunks that strip off their clothes the instant they meet. When they sit down on the upholstered couch out by the pool (bad idea!) one grabs a magazine, but that seems to displease the other guy tremendously as he grabs the magazine out of his buddy’s hand and begins to wrestle with him (or is it “wrassle”?)

The two guys who were friends mere moments ago are now rolling around the wrestling mat fighting for dear life. Between cutting back and forth to the blond twink on guitar, the wrestling ends with the two in a scissors hold rolling themselves into the pool. They shake hands and make up (but not make out…)

If there were a “money shot” in this movie made for the 1950’s movie audience, it would be when the two hunks rub a bit of suntan lotion on each other. It ends with the two of them wrapped in a giant towel.

And that, my friends, is what passed for gay porn 50 years ago!

See the whole scene in the VIP Room.

Jack LaLanne Was Uncut!

Monday, January 24th, 2011 by admin

Jack Lalanne Uncut

Jack Lalanne Uncut

The media is all paying tribute to the fitness and early television pioneer Jack LaLanne after learning the news that the 96 year old had passed away over the weekend.

But what the lamestream media isn’t mentioning is the fact that muscle man Jack LaLanne was UNCUT! For many gay men of a certain age, that is important news. What’s more, Vintage Bareback has photos of Jack LaLanne NAKED! I put together a small gallery of old physique photos, magazine covers and publicity shots of the fitness pitchman, and some of them are nude!

Become a VIP Member of Vintage Bareback and see for yourself!

Mr. LaLanne started his career with an Oakland gym in 1936 – a time when athletes weren’t supposed to lift weights and women weren’t supposed to exercise – and went on to host the longest-running fitness show on television.

He licensed his name to two fitness clubs, wrote exercise books, made videos, gave lectures and marketed a juice machine.

Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the world’s most famous bodybuilder, said it was Mr. LaLanne who made exercise a goal for the common man and woman.

In 1951, he started a live exercise show on KGO-TV in San Francisco. The “Jack LaLanne Show” went national in 1959 and ran for 34 years in the United States and Europe.

Mr. LaLanne became known for great feats of strength. At 40, he towed a 2,000-pound cabin cruiser as he swam the Golden Gate Channel. When he was 42, he did a record 1,033 pushups in 23 minutes.

When he was 60, Mr. LaLanne swam from Alcatraz to Fisherman’s Wharf – while handcuffed, shackled and towing a boat.

Beatnik Wrestling

Thursday, January 13th, 2011 by admin

JavaScript is disabled!
To display this content, you need a JavaScript capable browser.

This black-and-white softcore epic came from the late 1950’s when even showing naked penises was only marginally legal, if legal at all. Producers at the time were desperate to show some sort of all-male “action” in film without showing too much. Showing two guys wrestling was a frequent diversion that allowed one-on-one contact without much indication of eroticism. But the intended audience knew what was going on and were grateful to see any penises on camera, even though they were just dangling.

The preview above gives you a taste of “Beatnik Wrestling“, but the full 8 minute loop is available in the VIP Room. In the full version, the so-called plot begins with two strangers meeting on a dusty trail. It’s a friendly meeting, but the slightest annoyance sets one guy off on a violent rampage, chasing the other guy up a tree. The anger quickly subsides, and the two trim, sinewy bad boys with matching goatees and leather vests head off down the road.

It’s interesting to note that “beatniks” were the most feared segment of society, with a rebellious fashion sense to wear facial hair, tattoos, and sunglasses at night. These guys were about as “rough trade” as you could get at the time.

They come upon a house, knock on the door and find no one home, so naturally, these juvenile delinquents decide to break into the house for no apparent reason. While committing breaking-and-entering, they spot a swimming pool, but proceed into the house. Once inside, they decide it’s nap time, so they strip off all their clothes. Unfortunately, the daybed is only big enough for one, so another wrestling match occurs.

The decor of the house looks rather rustic and Wild West, but the walls are adorned with male erotic painting by George Quaintance.

Again, the wrestling ends as suddenly as it begins, and the two decide to go outdoors and sunbathe in the nude. As expected, the peaceful sun worshipers soon turn violent and in the confusion, they end up rolling into the pool. The wrestling continues till they get tired and decide to let bygones be bygones.

But no sooner do they get out of the pool, another plot twist emerges. The attractive young occupant of the house appears with drinks for the rassling boys! Their rugged beauty and masculinity overwhelm him to the point he not only forgives their trespassing, he drops his own pants and invites the boys back into the pool.

The lesson here is that if you are good looking enough, all your sins will be forgiven!

Young Physique Feb. 1959

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 by admin

The Young Physique

The Young Physique

It’s hard to imagine, but stoke magazines for men goes waaay back. I just scanned this issue of The Young Physique and took notice of the date. February 1959! Wow, and these guys are smoking hot.

The man on the cover is Steve Wengryn, one of the most photographed physique model of the time. The second photo is the guy they’re touting on the cover, Ernie Lopez. I could easily see him dancing on a box at any gay Latino dance club here in San Francisco right now, but that picture was shot sometime in the late 1950’s!

I scanned the entire issue of Young Physique and it’s available right now in it’s entirety in the VIP Room, so sign up now.

Openly Gay Couples in the Vintage Porn Age

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 by admin

Beat Poets

Most of the vintage porn I provide at Vintage Bareback was produced underground, in secret, and sold to closeted gay men. Here is a shot of two gay pioneers, Allen Ginsberg and his long time lover Peter Orlovsky. They were an openly gay couple from 1954 until they died.

Most of us only know of Ginsberg from his later years as an eccentric old man. Cute young hipster boys think they will always have 30″ waists and fashionable hairdos. Forever. But will they have books that will last forever?

Gaze at the beauty of those youngsters above, they could be any Mission District kid in skinny jeans and white framed sunglasses. And remember, beauty doesn’t last. Find something that will.

Irwin Allen Ginsberg (pronounced /???nzb?r?/; June 3, 1926 – April 5, 1997) was an American poet who vigorously opposed militarism, materialism and sexual repression. In the 1950s, Ginsberg was a leading figure of the Beat Generation, an anarchic group of young men and women who combined poetry, song, sex, wine and illicit drugs with passionate political ideas that championed personal freedoms.[1] Major literary works of the Beat Generation include the novels On The Road by Jack Kerouac and Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs, as well as Ginsberg’s epic poem Howl, in which he celebrates his fellow “angelheaded hipsters” and excoriates what he saw as the destructive forces of capitalism and conformity in the United States.

In 1954, in San Francisco, Ginsberg met Peter Orlovsky (1933–2010), with whom he fell in love and who remained his life-long partner.

Hello! Rock Hudson On The Phone

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 by admin

Rock Hudson was gay

“Hello. This is Rock Hudson. Could you send over two blond hooker boys for me to fuck in the ass?  (pause) Yes, that Rock Hudson. Better make that four boys, Sal Mineo, Roddy McDowell and Merv Griffin are coming over to go swimming. 8 o’clock? That’ll be great. Thanks.”

It would be nice if we were all rich movie stars that could just call nubile boys to cover over for sex, but for the rest of us, we have to rely on gay porn websites. Join now before I out you in the tabloids.

Mike Sill – Mr. Utah 1956

Friday, November 13th, 2009 by admin

Mike Sill Mr. UtahMike Sill was born in 1934 and died in 1994. At age 21 he was 6′1″ and 210 pounds with a 52″ inch chest, 29″ waist and 18″ biceps.

Mike Sill was truly a “golden boy,” a gifted athlete, sculptor, and graceful model whose work with several West Coast physique photographers (most notably, Dave Martin, Bruce of Los Angeles and Bob Delmonteque) cemented his popularity in the mid-1950s and resulted in numerous magazine covers.

Having suffered from rickets as a child, Sill began training with weights at age 14 to improve his body. Two years later, he won the Jowett World Body Building Trophy at age 16. During high school, he excelled in track and field events. In 1955, he was named Mr. Utah (Jr. division) and the following year was named Mr. Utah (Sr. division). In 1957, he won top honors in both the Mr. Rocky Mountain and the Mr. Western America competitions.

Mike Sill blond bodybuilderFor two years, he attended the University of Utah, where he studied sculpture and swam on the university’s swim team. He later posed for the famous paintings that Arnold Freiberg created for Cecil B. DeMille’s film, “The Ten Commandments.” He also posed for Dr. Avard Fairbanks’ rendition of “Lycurgus,” located in Greece, and the Aaronic Priesthood statue located on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sill served a two-year mission in London during the late 1950s, where he was profiled and photographed for the physique magazine Popular Man (June 1959) by the physique photographer Domenique (William Domenique). In fact, Sill’s family was a prominent Mormon family. Sill’s father, Sterling W. Sill, was an elder of the church, the host of a radio show broadcast on Sunday evenings from Salt Lake City’s Temple Square, and the author of 30 inspirational books.

Photographer Dave Martin, who was credited with discovering Sill, said, “Mike Sill was my greatest success.” Bob Delmonteque, who also photographed Sill extensively, remembered him as a vivacious young man who, despite his religious convictions, was proud of his body and enjoyed baring it for his camera. Mike Sill died December 19, 1994 at age 60 of a heart attack.
