I could call this movie an “art film” simply because it’s in black and white. Hey, a lot of hack photographers think their work is “art” simply because it’s shot with Tri-X film. I say BULLSHIT.
I think there is more going on in this movie from an artistic sense than meets the eye. Yes, it’s primitive in technical quality and even in technique – the camera is anchored to a tripod and some of the pans and tilts are a little jerky. But keep in mind this stuff was illegal to shoot back in the early 1970’s, film and equipment was expensive, and even taking the footage to a processing lab might lead to your arrest. It was all done on the sly, leading to it’s “underground” nature.
Some VIP members who watch this movie may comment that it’s too slow or too tame by today’s standards. (Your comments are appreciated.) The opening segment, seen in the preview clip above, was intended to be a slow burn. I’m assuming the film maker came from a photography background because the opening is more a series very “staged” tableaus than a moving picture – the close-up of an executioner, the leather master in the lower right foreground with the submissive boy tied up in the background, and the solitary nude, round butt cheeks draped over a medieval torture rack, etc. The effect is chilling and beautiful in its horror.
The sex is a bit stilted and also very staged, but it included probably the earliest examples of the “hands-free” cum shot I’ve ever seen. By “hands-free” I refer to the technique popularized by directors like Kristen Bjorn who get his models to work themselves up to a frenzy off-camera, then roll tape just as the guy ejaculates without touching his dick. With a little “movie magic” it looks like spontaneous combustion.
Lavender Lounge Studios is very proud to present this extremely rare, underground footage of edgy sadomasochistic sex play disguised as a performance art piece in period costume. (Not sure what period it might be, but the costumes are certainly fun!)
